Economy

A standard Saver or Flexi fare with Virgin Australia buys you a seat in the value-for-money Economy section. The most popular choice for short haul domestic and international flights, Virgin Australia's Economy class features luxury leather seats up to 75 centimetres in pitch and 43 centimetres in width.

Complimentary tea, coffee and water is available for all guests and a meal and beverage service is provided to those who purchase a Flexi fare. Complimentary beer and wine are also served after 4pm on flights between Australian mainland capitals, Monday to Friday.

Virgin Australia Baggage Allowance

Carry-On

All guests travelling on Virgin Australia domestic flights are allowed up to 7kg of carry-on baggage, which can either be two pieces (a small bag and/or briefcase) or one small bag plus a suit or garment bag. In addition to this allowance, one of the following personal items may be taken on board: a satchel-style laptop, handbag, overcoat, camera, reading materials, crutches, walking stick or umbrella without metal points.

Always pack your passport, cash, business documents, laptop and medications in your carry-on.

Carry On Baggage

Checked

Guests who have purchased a Flexi or Saver fare are allowed one piece of checked baggage up to 23kg, while those with a Saver Lite fare have the option of purchasing a 23kg baggage allowance when they make their booking or prior to check-in.

Business Class travellers are allowed two pieces of checked baggage weighing up to 32kg and Silver, Gold or Platinum level Velocity members are given additional baggage allowances. It's important to note that extra pieces of luggage or items exceeding weight limits will incur excess baggage fees at the bag drop counter.

Avoid packing anything breakable or valuable in checked baggage as items may get damaged or lost.

Checked Baggage

Bulky Items

Sports equipment such as bikes, golf clubs, surfboards, skis or snowboards represent one piece of checked baggage, provided they do not exceed the maximum size and weight limits and are in their protective covers. Small musical instruments may be taken as carry-on, but larger instruments (exceeding 85cm x 34cm x 23xm) must be included in checked baggage.

Bicycles must be packed into a special box available from bike stores or at the airport check-in counter.

Infant Baggage

Adults travelling with infants are able to take the following special items as checked baggage free of charge on Virgin Australia domestic flights: pram/stroller, portable cot, car seat and baby capsule. You can also take one car seat or booster seat per child free of charge. Guests may also take one extra carry-on bag with baby items for use during the flight, such as nappies or bottles.

Try to book your travel around baby's sleep hours if possible, for an easier journey for both you and bub.

Restricted or Dangerous Goods

There are certain items you are not permitted to take onboard an aircraft in either checked or carry-on baggage. This includes petrol, some batteries, fireworks, bleaching powders, poisons such as weed killers and fertilizers. If you have an item you think might be classed as a dangerous good, it's important to check with the airline before you fly.

Dangerous goods that are permitted onboard include battery powered mobility devices in checked baggage, electronics with lithium batteries and portable medical electronic devices.

Restrictions apply to dangerous goods permitted in the cabin, such as aerosols, toiletries and alcohol (exemptions apply to medicines and baby products). For more information on baggage restrictions, refer to the Australian Government Liquids, Aerosols and Gel Guide.

If you're concerned about an item, check with Virgin Australia before you leave home so your goods are not confiscated.

Choose from Web, Mobile or Kiosk

When travelling on a Virgin Australia domestic flight, you can check-in one of three ways:

Web Check-in is available from 48 hours up to 40 minutes before your flight departure and allows you to print your ticket at home, avoiding queues at the airport. However, you still need to drop off any checked baggage at the counter in the allocated time frame.

Mobile Check-in is available using Virgin Australia's mobile site on your internet-capable phone and allows you to receive your boarding pass via mobile, email or airport collection. If you select to receive your boarding pass via mobile or email, you can download the boarding pass onto your device (including tablet computers) and scan it at the gate.

Kiosk Check-in at the airport is easier than ever and is available from two hours up to 30 minute prior to departure. Simply find the Virgin Australia self-serve kiosks near the bag drop counter, enter your details and your boarding pass will print automatically.
