Premium Economy

Available on selected flights from December 2014, Lufthansa’s Premium Economy Class delivers many of the perks of the Business Class experience at prices closer to Economy rates. The newly equipped Premium Economy cabins promise more personal space, with a 38-inch seat pitch and wide seats with adjustable backrest and footrest. The extensive in-flight entertainment program can be enjoyed on larger 10-11 inch personal seatback screens. The on-board dining experience starts with a welcome drink, followed by a Premium Economy multi-course hot meal menu served on china crockery. Additional features of Premium Economy include an additional baggage allowance of 2 bags weighing up to 23kg, and access to many of the Lufthansa Business Class Lounges for a fee.

On-demand entertainment is available via large personal screens, with a large menu of blockbuster movies, classic films, TV, games and music. Each seat is fitted with an AC power socket, with WiFi available on many flights. Culinary delights are served up from a restaurant-style menu of Bavarian and international choices, served up alongside tempting deserts and fine wines and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

First

Nowhere is Lufthansa’s motto “Nonstop you” more apparent than in First Class. The award-winning First Class experience is a cut above, with the whole travel process made straightforward and relaxing from start to finish. Greeted by a personal assistant at the airport, you’ll be shown to the exclusive surroundings of the First Class Lounge, before being transferred to your flight via limo. On-board, remote controlled ergonomic seats transform into 2-metre long flatbed at the push of a button for superior comfort and rest. Cabin crew also provide a mattress topper, pillows and a doona for each passenger to ensure a restful sleep. Lufthansa’s First Class dining menu is created through collaboration with premium hotels and top chefs, to produce a selection of delicious and healthy regional dishes. First Class passengers will also enjoy an extensive wine list designed by an award-wining world-class sommelier. An amenities kit with exclusive toiletries is available to ensure First Class passengers arrive feeling refreshed.

Carry-on

Economy and Premium Economy passengers can travel with one piece of carry-on luggage, weighing up to 8kg. Business and First Class passengers’ carry-on allowance is increased to 2 pieces of luggage with a maximum weight of 8kg each. Dimensions for all hand luggage bags must not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm. Reasonably sized personal items such as a small handbag or laptop bag may also be taken on-board in addition to the set carry-on allowance.

Checked Baggage

Lufthansa allows an Economy checked baggage allowance of 23kg, increasing to 2 pieces with a maximum weight of 23kg each for Premium Economy passengers. Business Class passengers enjoy a generous weight allowance of 2 pieces of checked baggage weighing up to 32kg each, while First Class passengers may bring 3 pieces at 32 kg each. Baggage that exceeds the set allowance will be subject to excess baggage fees, and no single piece of luggage may weigh more than 32kg. Additional baggage allowance may be available to eligible members of Lufthansa’s Miles & More Rewards program.

Checked Baggage

Bulky Items

Sporting equipment may travel as part of a passenger’s regular baggage allowance. Any sporting or bulky equipment must be registered with Lufthansa up to 24 hours prior to travel. If sports baggage exceeds 32kg, it must be transported as freight with cargo fees applied. Sporting equipment that exceeds the free baggage allowance but not the weight, is subject to a set fee.

To pack a bike in a bike box: turn the handlebars in and secure to the frame, remove pedals and front wheel if possible, lower or remove seat post and deflate tyres.

Infant Baggage

Infants under 2 years of age travelling in parents’ laps are entitled to one 23kg piece of checked luggage regardless of travel class. Each infant may also bring a stroller and authorised child restraint seat.

Bassinets are available on all long haul international flights and the flight crew can help wash and heat up bottles.

Restricted or Dangerous Goods

For safety reasons certain items are not allowed to travel anywhere on Lufthansa flights. These include security cases with built in alarms, explosives, pressurised gas containers, flammable liquids, items that ignite easily such as matches, oxidising substances, poisonous and infectious substances, radioactive materials, corrosives, strong magnets, petrol operated equipment and electro-weapons. Other weapons such as firearms may be transported with prior consent by the airline, and weapons and ammunition must be packed in separate boxes or bags. Carry-on luggage is subject to regulations limiting the amount of liquids, gels and pastes that may be taken on a flight. All products must be in containers of 100ml or less, transported in a transparent, resealable bag, with an allowance of one bag per traveller. Other items banned from hand luggage include weapons and replica weapons, and pointed blunt or sharp instruments.

If in doubt, leave it out. Even if you accidentally take a dangerous good on board an aircraft you can be fined and penalised.
