Nelson Mandela Capture Site
If you’re planning on making a stop at Howick during your stay in KZN. We’d recommend a historical stop at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. This 3D-style sculpture was conjured up by Marco Cianfanelli, and consists of 50 steel poles that measure up to 10 metres high.
The site pays homage to Madiba’s 27 year incarceration. The artwork seemingly conjures Nelson Mandela’s face from a distance, but when up close, appears to be no more than steel poles cleverly placed. This sculpture marks the exact location where Nelson Mandela was arrested 50 years ago. Explore the visitor's museum and shop for colourful handicrafts at the craft stalls.
