The incredible bridges of the magnificent Capilano Suspension Bridge Park must be seen to be believed. Three unique treks incorporate some of the most exciting suspension bridges found anywhere, perched high above towering trees, rushing rivers and wide canyons these bridges will get your heart pumping.
This fun filled nature park is one of Vancouver’s most visited attractions. Located in North Vancouver, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park offers stunning natural setting with a twist. Three trails, each featuring a different suspension bridge create a thrilling walk through nature. Treetops Adventure is a suspended pathway through a dense forest filled with Douglas fir trees with some bridges reaching up to 30 metres high. Cliffwalk is a semi-circular suspension trek that juts out of a cliff top overlooking a scenic valley and the Capilano River. Some sections are even feature a glass floor for the ultimate view below. The grand-daddy of them all is the amazing Capilano Suspension Bridge. Stretching 450 feet long, the bridge hangs 230 feet above the river offering a spectacular view and thrilling journey across the valley.
The first suspension bridge in the area was constructed in 1889 out of rope and lumber after the land owner George Mackay built a cabin in his 6,000 acre pristine wilderness. The bridge and beautiful settings became a popular destination for Mackay’s adventurous friends and before long a wire cable suspension bridge was built. Over the decades the famous suspension bridge underwent continuous modernization and todays largest is on a grand scale that George Mackay could only have dreamt about.
The park is located only ten minutes from downtown Vancouver. Take the Trans Canada Highway going west. Proceed to exit #14, Capilano Road and continue north for half a mile.
