By day, Temple Street is a somewhat inconspicuous thoroughfare between the areas of Jordan and Yau Ma Tei in bustling downtown Kowloon. Once the sun begins to set on one of the most populous parcels of Hong Kong, however, the street transforms into the popular Temple Street Night Market – trading in everything from menswear to cheap electronics, antiques, counterfeit watches and DVDs and just about every type of goods and services imaginable.
Located smack-bang in the middle of central Kowloon, this enduring night market may be a bit rough around the edges, but it’s also a must-see for anyone interested in experiencing a piece of genuine Hong Kong shopping culture.
Teeming with shoppers until the early hours of the morning, this pedestrian-friendly zone is a hotbed of cheap and cheerful consumerism. From exotic foods to jewellery of varying designs and origin, knick-knacks and trinkets of all shapes and sizes, the Temple Street Night Market must be seen to be believed.
Named for the nearby Tin Hau Temple which dominates the district, this simple hawker affair grew rapidly to become the largest night market in Hong Kong. As well as the merchandise on offer, the Temple Street Night Market is also an ideal place to tantalise – or terrify – your tastebuds with an array of exotic food.
