Overlooking the shimmering Philippine Sea in Northern Guam, the dramatic Two Lovers Point is one of Guam’s leading tourist attractions. Chamorro legend has it that the beautiful site is where two lovers leaped to their deaths so they could be together for eternity rather than the girl marrying a Spanish sailor as promised by her father.
Despite the rather grim history of the 400-foot high cliff-side, Two Lovers Point makes the perfect place for a day trip. A pretty park with sweeping views of Tumon Bay, Two Lovers Point is also home to a tasteful 9-11 memorial and a shop selling foam hearts and locks you can attach to the fences with your message enclosed. Thirsty tourists can grab themselves a cool drink while the gift shop has plenty of other trinkets so you won’t forget your journey when you back home.
To get out to the lookout it’s only a short walk and a small fee, but it’s definitely worth it for both the photo opportunities and the view of Faifa’i Beach down below. An extra special time to visit is during sunset when the sky changes colour as the sun drops creating a breathtaking backdrop for the spectacular ocean and cliffs. Just remember the mosquito repellent if you’re visiting at dusk or you’ll head home with more than just happy memories!
To take in the sweeping landscape and breathtaking views grab a seat on one of the numerous Trolley buses departing from the DFS Galleria in Tumon. Many believe Two Lovers Point encapsulates everything there is to love about Guam so there’s little surprise that Two Lovers Point is one of the essential places to visit on any travel itinerary and can get busy at times. Your best bet to avoid the crowds is to hire a car and visit early or later in the day so you can have Two Lovers Point all to yourself (or at least just a few).
