A gorgeous and inviting oasis not far from downtown Orlando, the Harry P. Leu Gardens is a beautifully landscaped botanical garden established for the purpose of furthering appreciation and knowledge of native Floridian and other tropical and sub-tropical plants and flowers. There is also a museum located within the gardens, made from a historic 19th century home which was gifted to the city of Orlando in 1961 by Harry P. Leu.
Lovely pathways lead visitors through the lush grounds; past old elms and oaks, blossoming trees and plants and around inviting fountains, a lovely gazebo and other decorative features. The 19th century Leu House Museum is tucked away within this tropical heaven and sits peacefully within its natural setting. Tours offer a wonderful insight into Florida living in the early 1900’s and this old house has been painstakingly restored. Tours are available every 30 minutes.
The gardens are a beautiful urban respite and are the perfect location for a leisurely stroll, taking in the stunning array of Florida’s plant life. For those with an interest in flowers, the gardens contain over 7,000 annuals and perennials, a citrus grove, banana trees, and even a butterfly garden made up of trees and plants that attract the delicate winged insect. The gardens are located just east of U.S. Interstate 4. Take exit 85, East Princeton Street and turn right on Orange Avenue. Take a left on Virginia Drive and another left on Forest Avenue. The gardens are situated on the left.
