Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is the main launch site for NASA and where all of the manned space missions have departed from, including Apollo 11, the first manned mission to the moon. Located on the Atlantic coast just a 45 minute drive from Orlando, Kennedy Space Center is also a park and museum, featuring rare space exhibits and fascinating tours of its facilities, grounds and launch pads.
Some of the world’s greatest explorative journeys have departed from this center, and images of these great missions are indelibly etched into world history. Visitors are able to stand next to famous rockets, experience the International Space Station and even see Space Shuttle Atlantis. Included in the general admission is a KSC bus tour which takes visitors on drive-by viewings of the famous shuttle launch pads and includes a visit to one of the massive Saturn V moon rockets.
There are many other fascinating tours to choose from and it’s recommended that a two day pass is purchased to fit everything in. There are in depth launch pad tours, a fascinating tour of a Launch Control Centre used for many shuttles launches and a ‘Mega Tour’ which includes an inside tour of the Vehicle Assembly Building where space vehicles are assembled.
From Orlando, take highway SR 528 east and exit at SR 407 for Kennedy Space Center and Titusville. Take 407 to the end and turn right on SR 405 and continue nine miles where signs will lead you to the entrance of the visitor area.
