Kenya Destination Guide
The Republic of Kenya is a captivating country with mountains and rainforests, lakes and beaches, grassy plains and incredible wildlife – its name is virtually synonymous with thrilling wildlife expeditions.
The country is home to nearly twenty national parks that include the famous Tsavo East and West National Parks, and the Masai Mara – an area through which over a million wildebeest, zebra and other antelope migrate every year in one of the most awe inspiring wildlife events on earth. Take a hot air balloon flight over the plains and marvel at this spectacle of nature. In similar numbers, lesser flamingos flock to the Lake Nakuru National Park to nest along its shores in a sea of pink, and to feast on the abundance of algae. The park has recently been expanded to include sanctuaries for the protection of the Rothschild giraffe, and both black and white rhinos. You may even spot a lion, cheetah or leopard roaming about.
Stand in awe of the views across the Great Rift Valley; visit beautiful Lake Naivasha or cycle among zebra, giraffe and baboons in the scenic Hell's Gate National Park. This is one of the only national parks in the world that you can cycle through, and the stunning views across the length of the park makes it well worth the effort.
If you're fit and adventurous, the ice-capped Mount Kenya beckons to be climbed. This 5 199m high extinct volcano is located in dense mountain forest with stunning glacial peaks. It is the second highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro.
For a different point of view, head to the coastal city of Mombasa. Bordering the Indian Ocean, Mombasa is known for its beautiful beaches, diverse culture and lively nightlife. Explore the labyrinth streets of the Old Town, or haggle with local vendors for delicious fresh fruit at the Main Market. Take home a little piece of your adventure and shop for souvenirs such as glass beads, Masai blankets, rustic wood carvings or soap stone.
Travel the beautiful coral coast and see beaches such as Diani, Watamu and Lamu – the perfect way to relax after a busy wildlife adventure. White-sailed dhow boats dot the cobalt waters; thatched huts serve ice-cold beers and snacks – what more could you want from a beach paradise? Take a cool dip in a rock pool, or hop on a speed boat for a breath-taking scuba experience around the neon reefs.
Kenya has much to reward those who take the time to explore this stunning country, so book your Kenya flight or overland tour today and prepare to be enchanted.
