While the beach scene is slightly outside the city, the area has some incredible beaches to relax on or to enjoy all the popular beach sports and adventure activities. Palm Cove
On the northern shores of Cairns not quite half way to Port Douglas is the lovely town of Palm Cove. This inviting shoreline fulfils all of your beach requirements with activities including kayaking and fishing from the pier plus warm-water swimming and snorkelling. There’s never any worry of overcrowding as this relaxing beach has plenty of space for all. When you’re feeling hungry or need to quench that thirst, take a stroll along the foreshore where you’ll find plenty of al fresco restaurants, cafes and shops.
Green Island
If it’s true seclusion you’re after on one of the most pristine beaches found anywhere, then Green Island is the place for you. Situated about 25-kilometres off the coast of Cairns, daily boat tours offer catamaran transport to this idyllic spot. With beautiful shallow waters and great snorkelling, this is a great beach for both the nature lover and adventure lover. Tour operators that serve Green Island all boast long lists of fun things to do, from kayaking and windsurfing to glass bottom boat rides and Scuba diving. Best of all, Green Island sits within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park where beautiful coral reefs can be explored.
Trinity Beach
Trinity Beach offers a picturesque escape with its lovely cove setting between the Cairns headlands. With palm tree lined stretches of white sand and seductive waves for a refreshing swim, this beach is perfect for a relaxing day out or activities out on the water. A plentiful selection of hotels and resorts are nearby and reach into the CBD, with local cafes and restaurants creating a vibrant area for a holiday.
