The Zeil (German for ‘row’) is Frankfurt’s famous retail street known for its exclusive department stores, boutiques and shops. Known simply as the ‘Zeil’, the area also features attractive thoroughfares and inviting plazas for shoppers, tourists and locals alike to relax and enjoy the many cafés and restaurants along the popular street.
The Zeil is a mile long mall and one of Frankfurt’s most exclusive and well known areas. The tree lined street is home to some of Frankfurt’s best hotels and is centrally located to many of the city’s biggest sites and attractions. An eclectic mix of old world architecture and ultra modern structures with inviting public areas creates a constant buzz that draws people to this exciting atmosphere all day long.
The western side of the Zeil is pedestrian friendly and closed to traffic and is located between the public squares of Hauptwache and Konstablerwache, two stations served by public transport. The western side of the Zeil is open to one-way traffic but has wide footpaths for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Three subway stations serve the Zeil. Hauptwache is located on the Zeil’s western end, Alfred-Brehm-Platz serves the eastern end while the Konstablerwache Station serves the mid section of the mall.
