This island jewel located about 80 kilometres south of Noumea is known for its stunning beauty, pristine settings and quiet bays and lagoons. Captain James Cook reached the island in 1774 giving it the much-deserved name Isle of Pines for the abundance of beautiful tall pine trees throughout.
While the Isle of Pines is just 14 kilometres wide and approximately 16 kilometres long, the remote island has seemingly endless beaches set along crystal blue waters. With its contrasting scenery, from the cliff tops above to the plentiful coral reef within the waters, there is a great deal to see and enjoy here. Accommodation choices are available in every price range from camp grounds to budget and even luxury.
One of the loveliest areas of the island is Upi Bay. This beautiful sheltered cove is lined with towering pine trees and white sand beaches and calm transparent waters. Follow the coast to the island’s southern coast where the inviting beaches of Vao and Kuto Bay await. The islands small village is located near Kuto Bay where bicycles and motorized bikes can be rented. Long walks or rides in areas undisturbed open up to visitors offering some of the most beautiful settings in the Pacific.
