Eat, Drink & Play In LA
When you're visiting a city for the first time there's nothing better than getting tips from a local on where to eat, where to shop, and for unique suggestions beyond the usual guide book inklings!
We caught up with Los Angeles’ local Jess Taylor, an interior designer at Disregarden with a keen eye gathering and restoring unique objects, for her insider scoop on Spanish fusion food restaurants, hipster bars in Echo Park, architectural gems and small art galleries worth checking out in LA.
Food
Baco Mercat – A Spanish fusion restaurant in downtown LA, it uses in-season vegetables and features an ever-changing menu. The flavours are complex, but the presentation is simple.
After Dark
Mohawk Bend – This converted theatre is a beer temple amidst the hipster mecca of Echo Park. The food is all Californian and the Indian Pale Ale selection is seriously impressive.
Play
Movie Stars' Homes and Beach Tour – What's not to love about a day of sun, sea and stardom! Cruise around Beverly Hills checking out movie stars' homes and get right amongst the glitz and glamour.
Day Trip
Watts Towers – The most underrated architectural gem in LA, the 17 sculptural towers were designed and constructed by a poor Italian immigrant in his backyard.
Secret Tip
Insider info – Check out Norton Simon Museum. This small art gallery features pieces by Picasso, Degas and Rembrandt.
