One of the most famous – and colourful events in New Orleans is the annual Mardi Gras parade.  It takes a lot of preparation however to pull off one of the biggest celebrations of the year, and Mardi Gras World is where all that hard work is accomplished.

Even if you’re able to witness or take part in the actual Mardi Gras parade, it’s Mardi Gras World that gives birth to the floats and costumes.   No matter what time of year, this is a great place to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create one of the most flamboyant occasions in the U.S.A.

Exclusive guided tours take visitors on a celebratory journey through studios that create Mardi Gras magic.  Here, it’s Mardi Gras everyday with over 500 floats being designed and built here, with everything from props, costumes and decorations on display.  Tours are offered every thirty minutes and last about an hour.  Tour highlights include an informational overview of Mardi Gras and its history and a walk through the studios themselves.

Mardi Gras World offers a free shuttle that departs from designated pick-up areas in the French Quarter and Downtown.  Guests can call Mardi Gras World for the shuttle pick up at their convenience.  Located along the river just south of downtown, it is a short drive from the French Quarter and is located at the end of Henderson Street.  Parking is available in public car park Lot J for a fee.
